Ansel Adams

This afternoon we visited the Ansel Adams exibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). It was really neat to walk through the gallery and see the progression of his photography throughout his lifetime. To think of what he had to go through to get some of those images back in they day with a gigantic 8×10 view camera…it’s crazy!! One of my favorite images of his is the birch trees in autumn as seen here:

This was an image that I had taken a few years ago in Yosemite that was inspired by Ansel Adams. Ansel shot a lot of black and white images using a red filter to deepen the skies in his images. The harsh contrast of the foreground subjects against the black backgrounds are what I like most about his work. This particular image was shot with an infrared camera which achieved a similar look:
