Spring Baptisms at Kensington

This morning’s service at Kensington Orion was very emotional for a lot of people. This past week, volunteers from the Orion campus took on an extreme home makeover project and spent one week building a house from the ground up for a family in Pontiac. This past Saturday was the big reveal and today the Banta family was introduced.
Following that were a number of baptisms which is a public gesture of people making the choice to follow Christ. Going into the water is symbolic of washing away the old and welcoming in the new.

Parenting – Perception vs. Reality

Recently, a lot of people have seen this photo which has been going around facebook. I’m not sure who created this but I think it’s genius. It made me laugh a lot and made me think about our own family.

The perception is what we hope will ultimately stick around in our long term memory banks. It’s perfect and full of love and bliss.
This past week, we took our three boys to the Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky to have a few days of waterpark fun.
I brought our underwater camera to shoot some fun pics and video. There was lots of laughing, squealing, splashing, and sliding (watersliding that is.)

When watching the video, it is a perfect reminder of the amazing few days that we had.

This is of course is just the perception. It feels like most of the time was spent chasing after our three small children. We were constantly having to remind them to not run, to not scream in the hallways, to not run, to not scream in the hallways, to not run, to not scream in the hallways, to get out of the water after you come down the slides because the lifeguards don’t want you to be in the way when the next person comes down, to lay on your back when you come down the slide so the lifeguards don’t get mad, to wait in line and not just cut in front of other people, to not just run away because you want to go down a slide without telling anyone where you’re going, to not jump when getting on the water slide, to not run, to not scream in the hallways, to not be yelling in the restaurant, to quit whining when your brother touches your arm, and the list goes on and on and on. Listening to the non-stop chatter of three small children can be mind-numbing when they say the same thing over and over and over. The days felt long and exhausting.

BUT… then there’s the other side of it. Getting to see their beautiful smiles, to hear their squeals of glee, and to get big tight squeezy hugs at the end of a long day is just awesome. These videos show the fun and excitement they had. This is what they will remember and after watching the videos only a few times…this is what WE will remember in the long run as well.
We pray for many more little vacations that are filled with joy and laughter and all the frustration that comes along with it.

Selfridge Air Show 2011 Photos

The Selfridge air show turned out to be a spectacular event and was a lot of fun for our family to see all the planes fly by.
We will of course continue to pray for the family of Todd Green who died in a tragic stunt accident.

On 8/21/2011 I went with my family to the Selfridge Air Show. It’s something I enjoyed doing as a kid so we took our three boys this year.
At around 1:30pm, Todd Green was doing an aerial stunt climbing from a plan into a helicopter. It was very windy. The first two passes did not work out. The PA system was tied into the cockpit so we could hear what was going on. I’m pretty sure that after the 2nd pass, the helicopter pilot said the skid from his helicopter hit the wing pretty good.
They agree to try again but start passed the trees where there was a big updraft from all the wind. Todd tried to grab the skid of the helicopter but instead missed and plummeted to the ground from 200 feet. At first I, along with others watching, thought it was part of the show until he hit the ground and it was obviously a mistake. He was rushed to a trauma center and we are still waiting for an update.
For respect for Todd’s family I will not post the photo of Todd actually falling.

The Avengers – Starring…the Brothers Muk

Cheridy found some super hero costumes at costco and I just knew that I had to make the boys a superheroes poster.
We had to take the Iron Man mask off of Reid because it was so big that he could only see through one eye hole. It was better to see his cute little face.

Grand Haven with the family

Last Thursday and Friday we took the boys for a last minute trip out to Grand Haven for a couple days.
We got to play at the beach, swim, make sand “castles”, do tie dyed T-shirts, and just hang out together.
It was a nice couple days away.

Our first night we saw what I think was the most incredible sunset I’ve ever seen.

We’ve gotten a lot of calls about real estate photographer in the metro detroit area. I really enjoy this type of work and was recently doing some pictures at our own house and thought I might post them.

Recently we had the opportunity to get our photos taken by some incredible photographers. We went out to our farmhouse while our photog friends were here from out of state and they took some fun pics of us and the boys. I can’t wait to get some of these printed and hanging on the walls.
