We are so excited that you chose us to photograph your family! Your session will end up being so much more than just pictures. The portraits we create are going to be pieces of heirloom artwork that will hold great sentimental value as they are passed down from generation to generation. This artwork is going to become a very important piece of your family history and we are thrilled to get to be a part of that!
Please take a look through the information below as it will help you be fully prepared for this experience. If you ahve any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We look forward to seeing you and your family soon!
For our shoots, especially with children, we prefer a “come as you are” policy where everyone is dressed in clothing that they feel comfortable in and enjoy. Our sessions include one outfit and we know that picking it out can be very stressful. The first thing people typically think of is to have everyone wear something that matches. We do not recommend that everyone is dressed identical. By dressing identical, you lose the individuality of your family members and they resulting photos will look very staged. Instead, we suggest that you pick different clothing in the same color family. That way, everyone keeps their individuality and with the complementing colors, the pictures will look harmonious when everyone is together. We also suggest you stay away from bright/bold patterns and colors. Make sure to keep the decor of your home in mind as well when picking out your outfits. You won’t want your clothing color to completely clash with your decor when the pictures are hanging on your walls.

If we are doing an outdoor shot, expect that the kids will be playing and having a good time. So make sure they wear clothes that are okay to get a little dirty or grass stained. Sometimes kids go through phases where they have a particular quirk that can be really funny and cute. Some kids love wearing large boots, cowboy hats, or they may have a favorite piece of jewelry that they made at school. Whatever things these are, incorporate it into their outfit! Years from now when they’re all grown up, you’ll cherish those little quirks and memories more than you ever thought possible.
It is strongly suggested not to get haircuts right before the photo shoot. A lot of haircuts take a few days to grow into.
The Photo Session
The photo session itself will be very laid back. Our goal with photographing children is to get them as natural as possible so we can capture real emotions and real laughter. To best achieve that, we love to let them play! While they’re outside they can run, climb, somersault, etc. With an outdoor location, we are able to just let families be themselves and have fun together. We want kids to play and have fun and we want parents to interact with their children. Let them tackle you, have tickle fights, play tag, roll on the ground, throw them in the air (and catch them please!). Enjoy your child and let them have fun!
Rather than us providing studio props, we suggest that you bring some of your kids’ favorite toys so that they have stuff to play with that is more personal to them. Whether it’s a giant bubble maker, Frisbee, stuffed animal, any type of personal toy can be fun for them during the session and then a great memory when they are all grown up.
Whether you child is the center of attention, or would rather be playing by him or herself with sidewalk chalk, let them be themselves. Our goal is to capture personality and to get photos that represent the unique qualities and quirks that make your children so special.
Since we are a small business and we do photo shoots at specific times of the day when the light is best, we only take a limited number of clients every week. Because of that, it is very important that you stick to your scheduled appointment for both the photo shoot and the ordering session. Once these appointments are booked, they are blocked off on our calendar and not available to anyone else. Please make sure to reference your service agreement to understand what our policy is on refunds, cancellations of shoots, and lateness.
Now I know everyone always wants to know what will happen if the weather is bad. If it is, WE make that decision on the day of your shoot and contact you to reschedule. We only reschedule if there is extremely high wind or steady rain. If you see some clouds in the sky, don’t freak out. We definitely don’t need a bright and sunny day to get amazing photos. Some of our best photo shoots have been on days where the weather was considered “bad” in the eyes of our clients, but it was great for photographing! Our goal is to get you great photos and if we do not think we can do that, then we do not want to do the shoot either. We know what conditions work and do not work, so you’ll have nothing to worry about!
Your understanding and promptness is greatly appreciated!
The Order Session
When taking your family’s pictures, we want to capture photos that you’ll be able to hang on your walls. After all, your family isn’t going to remember or care about a bunch of photos that were kept on a flash drive. They will cherish the moments and memories that were captured in our photos and hung on the walls in your home.
After your photo session, you will get to come back to our studio where you will see your images projected on a big screen. We will get to show you the custom heirloom ideas that we’ve come up with specifically for your family and you’ll get to see what all of the beautiful images would look like projected on YOUR very own walls! In order for us to do this, we have a quick and simple project for you, which this video will explain:
The order session itself will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours and all purchasing decisions and payments will be made at this appointment. Please make sure that anyone who is involved in the financial decision making is present as all orders will be finalized and printed immediately following the appointment. Anything purchased after/outside the order session will cost an additional 20%. We ask that you please do not bring young children to the ordering appointment. Everyone wants to know how much they will spend. Unfortunately, the amount that you might spend is impossible to predict as everything we do is custom to you, so it will depend on your family’s wants and needs. Orders have ranged anywhere from $500-$5000 with most people spending at least $1300. We suggest looking through the online Product/Price Guide to get a feel for what you like. Don’t worry about trying to figure out exactly what you want because most likely, it will change once you arrive and see your photos. We will walk you through the entire process and help provide you guidance and suggestions based on your needs and interests.
We look forward to seeing you and your family soon!
