On 8/21/2011 I went with my family to the Selfridge Air Show. It’s something I enjoyed doing as a kid so we took our three boys this year.
At around 1:30pm, Todd Green was doing an aerial stunt climbing from a plan into a helicopter. It was very windy. The first two passes did not work out. The PA system was tied into the cockpit so we could hear what was going on. I’m pretty sure that after the 2nd pass, the helicopter pilot said the skid from his helicopter hit the wing pretty good.
They agree to try again but start passed the trees where there was a big updraft from all the wind. Todd tried to grab the skid of the helicopter but instead missed and plummeted to the ground from 200 feet. At first I, along with others watching, thought it was part of the show until he hit the ground and it was obviously a mistake. He was rushed to a trauma center and we are still waiting for an update.
For respect for Todd’s family I will not post the photo of Todd actually falling.
